Firefighter Applicant Physical Aptitude Test

Red Deer Polytechnic has partnered with Red Deer Emergency Services and Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services to provide third-party testing of the Firefighter Applicant Physical Aptitude Test, a critical requirement all aspiring firefighters or firemedics must successfully pass before getting hired.

Red Deer Polytechnic’s Physical Aptitude Test is valid for Red Deer Emergency Services and Lethbridge Emergency Services.

This test is challenging as it is crucial that first responders possess the physical capabilities necessary to safely evacuate victims in any emergency. Maximal effort will be required and individuals participating should be healthy and active. Participants must pass all the tests to complete the overall test. The Red Deer Polytechnic, Fitness & Sport Services Firefighter testing materials were derived from those originally developed by the University of Alberta, Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation. The RDP materials have been adapted independently in collaboration with Red Deer Emergency Services, without the participation of U of A or its researchers.  While some similarities between the RDP and U of A materials remain, there are significant differences between the testing protocols and associated cut-scores of the evaluations, therefore the evaluations cannot be considered equivalent.
