Annual Research Showcase

The Research Showcase is an annual event of engaging presentations featuring the latest in faculty, staff and student research and scholarly activities (both in progress and recently completed).

Our accomplished faculty, staff and aspiring student researchers showcase their projects in an evening transcending academia, offering diverse and meaningful insights across various disciplines that impact our community and society.

Thanks to everyone who made this year's annual Research Showcase a success! 2024's Research Showcase featured 53 engaging presentations across various disciplines. 

Recognition of Scholarly Activity (RoSA) Awards

Red Deer Polytechnic is committed to life-long learning and to advancing research and scholarly activity in our province. 

 

In 2006, Red Deer Polytechnic and the Faculty Association created an annual fund of $10,000 to recognize significant scholarly undertakings by faculty members. Each year, a jury comprised of members from the Recognition of Scholarly Activity committee selects applications submitted by faculty members with a broad appreciation of scholarship. Since 2011, we have organized a public event to recognize the significant contributions of our faculty. Faculty are recognized for scholarly activity in four categories: 

  • Scholarship of Discovery
  • Scholarship of Integration
  • Scholarship of Application 
  • Scholarship of Teaching

Agora Student Conference

Agora Undergraduate Conference

The annual Agora Undergraduate Conference showcases student work completed in Humanities and Social Sciences, Social Work and Justice Studies classes, bringing together Red Deer Polytechnic's diverse community in celebration of student excellence. Students will share the results of their coursework with a public audience. In 2024, we marked the 20th student conference with more than 50 student presenters and 15 installations from our Visual Arts students.

Agora Journal

The Agora Journal, inaugurated over a decade ago by Heather Marcovitch, PhD (English), publishes outstanding work presented at the Agora Conference.

Through the journal and under faculty supervision, student editors receive applied instruction and experience in fact-checking, copyediting and building professional relationships with authors.

Student Science Conference

The Student Science Conference is an annual event that showcases student research and class projects completed in Biology, Biochemistry, and Chemistry courses. From an evening poster session to a full day of engaging oral presentations and podcasts, this event is designed for students to develop their presentation skills and explore their scientific passions in an academic conference format. The conference also features a keynote presentation on current scientific research, delivered by an invited scientist. The entire event is open to the public and free to attend.

The 17th conference held in April 2024 showcased 43 science students presenters including a featured research projects completed in both Central Alberta and Costa Rica.
