Programs
Health Care Aide Certificate
When: Contact your school counselor for information on course availability.
In-Person Commitment: Some courses within the Health Care Aide Certificate require in person labs. There will be mandatory practicum placements for those who progress to the end of the program.
Why would I want to take this program?
As a Health Care Aide, you may work in acute care facilities, continuing care facilities, hospitals, as well as in clients' homes. You will assist individuals needing care in various ways including eating, dressing, washing and moving while establishing meaningful relationships with them and their families.
Program Description:
These courses equip you to provide high-level, compassionate care to patients in hospitals, long-term care facilities, and even client homes. You'll assist with daily living activities, and medication (in some settings), and be a valued member of the healthcare team, making a real difference in people's lives.

Automotive Service Technician
When: February 3, 2025 – April 25, 2025
In-Person Commitment: You are required to be in class every day of this program. Failure to meet attendance requirements will result in removal from the program.
Why would I want to take this course?
Turn your passion for automotives into a career. Train to become an Automotive Service Technician and you will problem solve and perform precise work to maintain, diagnose and repair automotive vehicles, cars and light trucks.
Program Description:
As an Automotive Service Technician, you will maintain, diagnose and repair automotive vehicles, cars and light trucks. Automotive Service Technicians are employed by automotive repair shops, specialty repair shops, service facilities, car/truck dealerships and large organizations. Students must achieve a minimum grade of 65% with no section under 50% to pass the RDP portion. To pass the AIT Provincial Exam students must score a minimum grade of 70%.

Industrial Mechanic Millwright
When: April 7, 2025 – June 27, 2025

Why would I want to take this course?
Do you have a mechanical mind and are good at creative problem solving? These are critical skills required to become an Industrial Mechanic (Millwright). This trade is consistently in demand due to the flexibility of skills and broad knowledge they possess of the mechanical field.
Program Description:
As an Industrial Mechanic (Millwright), you will install, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment. Industrial Mechanics (Millwrights) find employment in construction, maintenance, machine shops and stockkeeping and sales. Students must achieve a minimum grade of 65% with no section under 50% to pass the RDP portion. To pass the AIT Provincial Exam students must score a minimum grade of 70%.

Course Description:
Discover the fundamental terminology, procedures, findings and theories related to basic psychological processes. Explore the history and nature of psychology and research methods in this field.
Learn about the psychological and biological foundations of behaviour, sensation and perception, consciousness, learning, memory, language and thought.

KNSS 1210 - Personal Fitness and Wellness
When: September 23, 2024 - December 13, 2024
In Person Commitment: This course is mostly online, asynchronous however there is a requirement to attend an in-person lab orientation.
Why would I want to take this course?
If you are interested in developing a healthy lifestyle and learning about what factors influence your overall fitness and wellness, this course may be of interest to you! This course can be used towards the completion of a Kinesiology & Sports Studies Diploma, a Justice Studies Diploma, as well as can be taken as an elective for many other programs. Course Description:
An exploration and application of the foundations of health, wellness and fitness from a personal perspective. Theory and practical strategies are used to empower the student in developing a healthy active lifestyle.

HSCI 1115 - Biology for Health Professions
When: September 23, 2024 - December 13, 2024
Requirements: Students must have Bio 20 completed to enroll.
Why would I want to take this course? This may be a good fit for you if you want to learn more about body systems and functions but are unsure of what particular Health Care related program you would like to apply to for post-secondary. This course can only be used as credit towards the Pre-Health Sciences Certificate.
Course Description: Examine human biology from a microscopic to macroscopic level. Describe homeostasis and the function of cells within the body.
If you are interested in exploring a career in a health care related field but are not sure what you would like to study, enrolling in this course will give you credit towards the Pre-Health Sciences Certificate. The Pre-Health Sciences certificate allows you to discover what areas of health care you are most interested in. This HSCI 1115 is not recommended for students that already have a program in mind that they would like to apply for outside of this certificate.
With the completion of the Pre-Health Sciences Certificate students can potentially get into the following programs:
- Medical Lab Assistant Certificate
- Occupational and Physical Therapist Assistant Diploma
- Pharmacy Technician Diploma

PSYC 1002 – Principles of Psychology II

Did you enjoy taking Principles of Psychology I? If so, this course is right for you! Principles of Psychology II takes a deeper dive into exploring behaviour. This course can be used towards the completion of a Bachelor of Arts or Science in Psychology Degree program as well as can be taken as an elective for many other programs. Course Description:
Identify fundamental terminology, procedures, findings, and theories related to individual, social, and abnormal behaviour. Topics may include intelligence, problem solving, creativity, motivation and emotion, lifespan development, personality, psychological disorders and treatments, health, stress and coping, and social behaviour.

SOCI 1260 – Introductory Sociology

NURS 1215 - Human Anatomy
When: March 3, 2025 – May 23, 2025
Requirements: Must be in grade 11 or 12 and have completed Bio 30 to enroll. Students must be academically strong as this course has a high minimum grade requirement.
Why would I want to take this course? If you want to learn more about the different structures and functions within the human body and are interested in potentially pursuing a career in nursing, this course may be a good fit for you! This course can be used towards the completion of a Practical Nurse Diploma, or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Collaboration with the University of Alberta. The minimum grade to utilize this course towards nursing is a 75%.
Course Description: NURS 1215 is an introductory human anatomy course. It will provide students with an understanding of the normal structure of the human body, how this structure provides the basis for the function and how this may be disrupted during the diseased state.

Early Learning and Child Care

This course goes over how to navigate different forms of communication and is a required course for the completion of an Early Learning and Child Care Certificate or Diploma.
