Participating in the Biological Sciences program in Costa Rica through RDP Abroad was an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime, and life-changing experience. My main goal was to gain hands-on fieldwork experience in conservation and develop skills both in the field and adapting to life abroad — and I definitely achieved that. This program provided a valuable sneak peek into what a career in fieldwork entails, which is essential for anyone considering this path. I strongly recommend this experience to other students, especially those interested in conservation and field research, as it truly prepares you for the challenges and rewards of working outdoors.

Program: Biological Sciences in Costa Rica

My main goal in participating in the RDP Abroad program was to gain hands-on field experience in biology and to contribute to turtle conservation efforts. I also hoped to connect with like-minded individuals who shared my passion for the environment—and I’m happy to say all of those goals were met.
This experience opened my eyes to new possibilities for my future career. It was truly an amazing trip where I met incredible people, took part in meaningful environmental work, and developed valuable new skills.
I strongly believe this program aligns with my academic and career goals. I’m very thankful I had the opportunity to be part of it, and I’m excited to apply what I’ve learned in my future studies and career.

Exchange Semester at RDP, Canada – Germany Exchange Program

Coming to Red Deer Polytechnic was truly a turning point for me. Before the exchange, I was questioning my path in education, but my semester at RDP helped me rediscover my passion for teaching. The instructors were incredibly supportive, offering not just academic insight but also practical advice that I know will stay with me throughout my career.
One of the most meaningful parts of my experience was participating in the RDP International Mentorship Program. What started as a way to get help with daily questions became a genuine friendship. I highly recommend it to any exchange student—it’s a wonderful way to connect with others and experience Canadian culture on a deeper level.
What stood out to me most at RDP and in Red Deer was the warmth and diversity of the people. I felt welcomed from the very beginning and was fortunate to make friendships that made my time in Canada truly unforgettable. I also appreciated how RDP embraces the Indigenous history of the land, creating space for important learning and reflection.
Red Deer felt like home—small enough to be cozy, but close enough to big cities and the mountains for adventure. I even got to embrace Canada’s passion for hockey, something I’d never experienced at my home university. In the future, I hope to support and inspire my students the way RDP and this experience inspired me—to help them fulfill their potential and believe in their goals.
