Biography

Following a diverse international career in the hospitality sector, Steve joined the post-secondary education world in 2003 at Camosun College in Victoria, BC.  Having been involved across most aspects of food services, he is well versed in problem solving and working under pressure in some quite unique environments. These experiences have fostered deep understanding around subjects such as inter-personal relationships, humanistic values, economic practice, and adult learning amongst others. The following two decades provided ample opportunity to instruct future culinarians across the spectrum of professional cooking from brand new eager young cooks to award winning international competitors and successful entrepreneurs.  The PSI environment has been an exceptional space to continue a passion for learning that led to a master's degree in education in 2017, Provincial Instructors Diploma (PID), and the Certified Chef de Cuisine (CCC) in 2008, and other certifications in areas such as leadership, Indigenous awareness, adult education, and health & safety.

One of his most memorable experiences was the opportunity to present Flavours of the West Coast (available on YouTube) for five seasons and co-author the accompanying cookbook. Over 65 episodes shared some amazing experiences as he explored the length and breadth of British Columbia's food scene from Jasper, Alberta to Haida Gwaii and everything in between.  This experience left a long-lasting impression on him about the hard-working people who grow, harvest, produce, share, and cook our food. This has contributed in so many ways to how he teaches, learns and appreciates the importance of the role food plays in our culture and our lives.
