Biography

Dr. Laura K. Davis has been teaching at Red Deer Polytechnic since 2008 in the areas of Canadian literature and writing studies. Her published books include Memory Work: Time in Selected Stories of Alice Munro (University of Alberta Press, 2025), This is Us: The Story of Jack and Joan Donald (Co-Written with Michael Dawe and published by Joan Donald, 2024), Margaret Laurence and Jack McClelland, Letters (Edited with Linda M. Morra, University of Alberta Press, 2018), and Margaret Laurence Writes Africa and Canada (Wilfrid Laurier University Press, 2017).

Her academic work resides at the intersections of history, culture, and literature, and her approach to the study of literature emphasizes the material and intellectual contexts in which texts are produced. She aims to inspire in her students an appreciation for literature and expression, an understanding, through literature, of the complexities of their own lives and societies. She has received the Award of Excellence for Teaching at Red Deer Polytechnic, a Teaching Excellence Award from the University of Alberta, and Research Grants from SSHRC (Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada) and AACTI (Alberta Association of College and Technical Institutes).
