“The Health Care Aide Certificate and Practical Nurse Diploma Information Sessions will provide prospective students the opportunity to connect with instructors and program developers, and to learn more about curriculum, program workload and career opportunities,” says Dana Davidson, Drumheller Community Learning Society Site Manager, Campus Alberta Central. “The ability to offer these programs in Drumheller helps learners in the region to conveniently achieve their career goals near the support of family and friends.”
Health Care Aides are integral members of healthcare teams, providing expertise and front-line care to clients in several different healthcare settings. Throughout the eight-month Health Care Aide Certificate program, students will grow their competencies through online readings, lessons and assignments, and in-person labs and clinical placements.
“The health care industry is seeing a significant demand for certified Health Care Aides right now,” explains Kalcy Dube, Program Coordinator for the Health Care Aide program at Red Deer Polytechnic. “We regularly hear from employers about the demand for graduates, with some wanting to confirm employment with students before the program has been completed. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to begin a career in the health care industry.”
The two-year Practical Nurse Diploma program prepares learners to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), providing nursing care in a variety of settings, including in the community, hospitals, and other health care agencies.
“We are very proud to offer our high-quality Practical Nurse Diploma program beyond Red Deer Polytechnic’s campuses to rural areas such as Drumheller,” says Heather Dirks, Interim Associate Dean, RDP’s School of Community, Wellness, and Health. “Students will receive a well-rounded education in diverse subjects that include Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology, Leadership, and Global Health while developing critical thinking skills. Learners will also participate in three practical experiences that will provide valuable opportunities to apply their knowledge and further develop their skills in a health care setting.”
Health Care Aide students may qualify for tuition bursaries up to $9,000.
