Megan Bylsma
Biography
Megan Bylsma started on a path that led places she could never have imagined when she enrolled in the BFA transfer program at Red Deer College (now Red Deer Polytechnic). Determined to learn how to draw, she achieved that goal while discovering a passion for the stories that build the foundations of art history. She followed the signs, she trudged the roads, and after journeying from the University of Lethbridge where she received her BFA in Art History & Museum Sciences, she knew getting her Master of Arts in Canadian Art History from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario (where she focused on the history and development of Canadian art during the mid-twentieth century,) was not her final destination. Fueled by the dream that had been sparked in the lecture halls of her college classes, she returned to Red Deer - to teach art history at RDP.
But fulfilling her dream was just the beginning! Once she began teaching her favourite topics and adding the History of Animation and approaches to Creativity to her expertise, she found a passion for helping students reach their own dreams. To her Canadian art history background, she added areas of focus in learner-centered teaching and learning, gamification, Universal Design in Learning, and other ways to help others find the passion and joy that she knew was possible in classroom.
