Doug MacDormand
Biography
Doug taught his first course at Red Deer Polytechnic in 1985, and then joined the faculty full-time in the fall of 1989. Doug teaches Business courses at opposite ends of the spectrum. Business Statistics and Computing were his mainstay for many years, but in recent years he has also expanded into the areas of leadership, interpersonal skills and general business. Doug has served as chair of the Business Administration program, as well as Interim Associate Dean for the Donald School of Business, Science and Computing (DSBSC)
In his off-campus hours, Doug worked for three years as Executive Pastor of CrossRoads Church, currently serves on the Board of CrossRoads and has anchored the multi-church Alpha program in central Alberta. Doug has also been a strong supporter of Toastmasters, an organization that helps people develop public speaking and leadership skills. Doug received his Distinguished Toastmasters status, the highest level of achievement in the organization.
Through both his in-class and out-of-class activities, Doug has become a keen advocate for the development of skills outside of the classroom. Doug and Kevin Willoughby have been working with the DSBSC team to develop opportunities for students to go Beyond the Books. They launched the Dean's Certificate - Recognition of Excellence that will help all DSBSC students develop the extra-curricular skills that employers are looking for. Doug and Kevin were the recipients of RDP’s Excellence in Innovation in 2022 for their work on the Dean’s Certificate.
